Please read these rules carefully before submitting work for the competition. The guidelines will assist you in completing the online entry form and you will be asked to agree to the Terms and Conditions before you submit an entry. By making a payment for your entry you have accepted these Terms and Conditions.

Submissions

  • To submit work to the competition entrants must have an Orangenius Account. Submissions must be entered into no more than two of the following categories:
    • Professional Drawing / Illustration Entry
    • Professional Animator Entry
    • New Talent Drawing / Illustration Entry
    • New Talent Animator Entry
      • New Talent is anyone under 25 years of age. (You must be at least 16 years old to enter).
      • Professional entry is work by a professional age 25 or older.
  • Entries must be either a drawing, illustration or a still frame from an animation (digital or analog.)
  • Contestants can enter once in either of the two categories for which you are identified. Only one submission of up to five works in each of the two categories is allowed.  Your entries must be added to a portfolio.  The portfolio link will direct judges to your submissions and Bio.
  • Entries must be of different works. If additional images of the same work are required, they should be added as alternate images on the Artwork Detail Page for that work.
  • If a work is created by more than one person, the submission must be from a primary creator and the contestant must have permission to submit the work. For example, if you were hired by a company to create animations for a short film, submit a still of content that you created and be sure that you have the appropriate rights to submit the work. If the submission includes parts that you did not create, you must explain what makes up your creation in the artwork’s description.
  • Entries may have been created at any time during his or her career. The contestant must be a living artist. Only an individual creator can enter.
  • The Competition is open to animators and illustrators working in any medium, context or geographical location.
  • Entries cannot be submitted by Orangenius or AWN staff, nor can work commissioned by Orangenius or AWN be submitted.
  • Orangenius is free to join and the competition is free to enter.

 

Image Guidelines

  • We suggest that you upload images large enough for the judges to see the detail necessary to judge your technical skill. However, the largest size available is 2000px wide by 960px high. Anything larger will be downsized to that size.
  • The formats you can upload are “.jpg”, “.jpeg”, “.png”, “.gif”, “.bmp.” Animated GIFs are also accepted.

Registration Steps:

Please note that you will need a free Orangenius account to enter the competition.

  1. Fill out Submission Form –  Part 1.
  2. Register for a free Orangenius account.
    1. You will be asked to provide your email address and location to sign into Orangenius, or you can use the Facebook login.
    2. Once you have registered, you should immediately receive an email with a confirmation link. Please check your junk folder if the email does not arrive.
    3. Clicking the link in the email will take you back to Orangenius where you can log in.
      1. Orangenius does not have access to your personal password. If you should forget it, please click the “reset password” function on the sign in page which will generate a “Reset Password” email and new password for
  3. To submit the required information, Register for a FREE Orangenius account. (You must use the same email used on your Submission Form).
    1. You are required to provide the following:
      1. Fill out your Artist Statement in the Orangenius Bio tab
      2. On the Artwork tab, upload 3-6 works or animation stills for consideration
      3. Fill out the following details by choosing each work and clicking the edit button, or selecting multiple works in the artwork table and using the bulk editor:
        1. Title
        2. Short description
        3. Category / Subcategory
        4. Materials used (i.e. Oil on Canvas)
    2. Once you have uploaded your artwork, you must place them in a portfolio. To create a portfolio, go to your artwork tab, select the images you want in your portfolio and click the create portfolio button.
      1. Note that each work must be a unique work.  If you have additional images showing the same work, please add them using the alternate images button on the artwork’s edit page.
      2. If you would like to add supporting video, you may add a link from YouTube, Vimeo, Or Instagram on the artwork’s edit page.
  4. When your submission is ready for review, submit your portfolio link using the Submission Form – Part 2.
    1. You will receive a confirmation email letting you know that we have received your entry along with a coupon code for a Pro account, free for six months.
      1. Pro Membership gives you priority status that puts you and your work at the top of search on Marketplace and Art Seen app. Other features of Pro include: custom URL, alternate images, ability to upload video, unlimited portfolios, and many more.
    2. Alternate images and video are not required, however, they are Pro features so please add them after you have submitted your portfolio and have received your Pro account coupon.
  5. If you are not ready to join Orangenius or submit your entry, we can send you reminders. We just need you to provide us with your email in the email field located below the entry form on the Discovered Contest Page.

Selections

  • Orangenius will review the submission to ensure that the rules for submission have been followed. Orangenius will endeavor to contact those contestants with deficient submissions, however, the responsibility for proper submission lies with the contestant.
  • Judging will be handled by independent parties, without interference from Orangenius or AWN.
  • The judging criteria for finalist works are:
    • Excellent technical skills
    • Strong use of creative ideas
    • A compelling narrative of the artist and their work
      1. Orangenius reserves the right not to present an award if the quality in a certain category is deemed not high enough.
  • Winners will be contacted by email or phone. Finalists will be contacted by email only.

 

Publication

  • All winners and finalists will be included in an Awards announcement, which will appear on Artrepreneur, the AWN network, as well as on Orangenius social media and newsletter platforms.
  • It is a condition of entering the competition that Orangenius is granted a license to reproduce selected work in the awards publication and any other print or digital material for the purposes of promoting the Competition.

 

Prizes

  1. Grand Prize Winners
    • One Grand Prize Winner will be chosen from each category. Entrants cannot be selected as a Grand Prize Winner or Finalist in more than one category.
    • Grand Prize is $500 dollars and a one-on-one meeting with a prominent media industry executive (TBD) to be held either in person or via video conference. Prior to any meeting, Orangenius will determine the process and general understanding of what will be discussed. While the focus of the meeting will be chosen by the winner, it must be career advice oriented. Materials such as resumés for review or a body of work must be submitted in advance.  A body of work for review must be limited to 15 still images or up to three short videos, lasting no more than 5 minutes each.
    • Work must be uploaded to Orangenius for review.
    • Grand Prize winners will also receive a one-year free Orangenius Pro Membership.
    • Each Winner will be interviewed for a stand-alone article on Artrepreneur and the AWN network.
    • Each winner will receive a “Discovered Competition Winner” badge on their profile and given priority placement in Orangenius Search. The Orangenius search page will include a direct link to winners’ Bios, Portfolios and winning Submissions.
  2. Finalists
    • Fifteen Finalists will be chosen for each category.
    • Finalists will be featured on Artrepreneur and the AWN network.
    • Finalists will receive a “Discovered Competition Finalist” badge on their Bio page, linked to their selected Portfolio.
    • Finalists will receive a Free Orangenius Pro account for one year along with priority placement in Orangenius Search. The Orangenius search page will include a direct link to finalists’ Bios, Portfolios and winning Submissions.
  3. Every Applicant who enters the contest receives 6 months free Orangenius Pro Membership (valued $54). Pro Membership provides the extra powerful features to help you and your work stand out. To know more about Pro benefits, see Contest Rules for details. You will receive your coupon code by email after you have filled out Submission Form – Part 2 with your Orangenius portfolio.

  • Grand Prize Winners will be contacted to set up a date and time for the executive meetings, discuss potential discussion points and to provide any material important to the discussion.
  • Checks will be mailed to each winner within 30 days of award announcement.
  • Winners must ensure that they are able to accept the cash
  • No prize will be awarded if the judges deem that there is no entry of sufficient quality to win the Grand Prize.
  • Prizes are not transferable, and cash will be paid in one lump sum
  • Prize winners are fully responsible for any taxes, fees or duties due in any country where they may be liable to pay such deductions.

  • Approximate dates:
    • Call for Entries deadline: April 30th, 2018
    • Shortlisting by jury: May 25, 2018
    • Notification of Shortlisting: June 15, 2018
    • Winners Announced: June 30, 2018

Additional Terms

  • Contestants are bound by these terms of service and the Orangenius terms of service and privacy policy.
  • Contestants agree that their submissions may be used by the Orangenius or AWN for the promotion of the competition, publications, or other materials including but not limited to press coverage, postcards, posters, ads, Orangenius or any of its partners social media, website, and e-newsletters etc. and thus grants Orangenius a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to reproduce and distribute the entry for 6 months.
  • Any use of the entries in a manner not related to this competition requires permission from the right holder of the work.
  • In the event that these Rules conflict with the Orangenius Terms of Service or Privacy policy, the Orangenius terms of service and privacy policy will be considered the controlling document.
  • THE CONTESTANT WARRANTS (GUARANTEES) THAT THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO SUBMIT WORK, THAT THE IMAGE IS ORIGINAL AND DOES NOT INFRINGE THE RIGHTS OF ANY OTHER PARTY. THE CONTESTANT WILL INDEMNIFY AND KEEP ORANGENIUS, INC. INDEMNIFIED AGAINST ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS, PROCEEDINGS, LOSSES AND COSTS (INCLUDING ANY LEGAL COSTS OR REASONABLE EXPENSES PROPERLY INCURRED AND ANY COMPENSATION, COSTS AND DISBURSEMENTS PAID BY THE AOI ON THE ADVICE OF THE AOI’S LEGAL ADVISERS TO COMPROMISE OR SETTLE ANY CLAIM) ARISING FROM OR AS A CONSEQUENCE OF ANY BREACH OR ALLEGED BREACH OF THIS WARRANTY.
